— Ayn Rand, “Philosophy and Sense of Life,” The Romantic Manifesto “No matter what corruption he’s taught about the virtue of selflessness, sex is the most profoundly selfish of all acts, an act which he cannot perform for any motive but his own enjoyment . . . an act which is not possible in self-abasement, only in self-exaltation, only in the confidence of being desired and being

Philosophy is not a bauble of the intellect, but a power from which no man can abstain. Anyone can say that he dispenses with a view of reality, knowledge, the good, but no one can implement this credo. Ayn Rand said of these lectures: “Until or unless I write a comprehensive treatise on my philosophy, Dr. Peikoff’s course is the only authorized presentation of the entire theoretical structure of Objectivism—that is, the only one that I know of my knowledge to be fully accurate.” I've reverted LGagnon's Aug. 15 edit, which removed all references to Objectivism as a philosophy. Whether or not it's flawed, juvenile, or ideologically motivated, it is a purportedly logically derived system with positions in metaphysics, epistemology, etc. Calling it an "ideology" implies it's something loose and politically based.

Boken baseras på en serie föreläsningar som hållits av Peikoff själv och som Ayn Rand godkände. Ayn Rand’s philosophy, Objectivism, begins by embracing the basic fact that existence exists. Reality is, and in the quest to live we must discover reality’s nature and learn to act successfully in it. To exist is to be something, to possess a specific identity.
